A. SCHLOSSBERG, FATHER-IN-LAW OF C. KENNEDY

Alfred Schlossberg, who made his fortune in textiles but achieved a measure of fame from his son’s marriage to Caroline Kennedy, died on Monday at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Atlantis after a two-week battle with pancreatitis. He was 87.

Mr. Schlossberg, a shirt manufacturer who headed his own textile company for many years, was a New York resident but maintained a winter home in a Palm Beach condominium for the past two decades.

He led a quiet lifestyle as a successful business executive and manufacturer until 1986 when his son, Edwin, married the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy.

Friends described him as a quiet, thoughtful person who was a devoted family man throughout his life.

In addition to Edwin, he is survived by his wife, Mae; daughter Maryann; and three granddaughters, all of New York.

Mr. Schlossberg’s funeral will be in New York, but arrangements are incomplete, according to a spokesman for Riverside-Gordon Funeral Home’s New York headquarters.
