- On June 22, 2000, Albert’s credibility came crashing down after being arrested for 34 counts of tax fraud and conspiracy.
- The lawyer had been charging large-ticket items like Ferraris and vacation homes to his businesses in order to evade certain tax laws.
- A judge totaled his expenses to be over $1.2 million.
- After it became clear to Pirro that he would be going to jail, he resigned from his many lobbying ventures and left his law firm, changing the name to Buley Public Affairs. He waived his right to appeal in exchange for a lesser sentence.
- On November 1, 2000, Pirro was sentenced to 29 months in prison — a light sentence, considering prosecutors had pushed for 33.
- On January 9, 2001, he was escorted to a minimum-security federal prison in Eglin, Florida.
