A 35-year-old woman has been identified as the victim who was killed in a shooting that also injured two other people Tuesday in Lauderhill.
Trecia Spencer Carruthers was found shot multiple times, lying unresponsive in the road in the 5600 block of Northwest 28th Street shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to Lauderhill Police.
A minor girl and an adult man were also shot and taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. They are expected to recover, Lauderhill Police said.
As of Wednesday, Lauderhill Police have not released any information about the circumstances of the shooting and have said the motive and suspect remain unknown.
Nisha Spencer, Carruthers’s younger sister, said the adult man who was injured in the shooting is the father of Carruthers’s 10-year-old daughter, who witnessed the shooting. He has since been released from the hospital.
Spencer, 31, said her sister was a mother starting her own notary business. She described her as “nothing but helpful and caring” and said the relationship she had with her daughter was one she admired. As the younger sister, Spencer said Carruthers was always her “cool big sister” chaperone.
“She’s direct representation of her heart being bigger than her body,” Spencer said.
