My Project
I am so excited to find decodable chapter books. My struggling readers are often stuck with "baby" books as they are learning to read. Flimsy books with very few pages and very few words on a page. They feel insecure with these low level picture books. They hate having these books in their book baskets and are constantly asking to "read' chapter books so that they look like their peers.
These decodable chapter books allow them to read chapter books like their peers and help them feel successful while learning to read.
Instead of just asking to 'read' chapter books, my students will actually be able to read these chapter books! My struggling readers will have the choice to read real chapter books! They wont feel different because they will have books that look the same!
With this project, I can be sure they are reading books they can actually read. I know they will be practicing their decoding and phonics skills as they read. Finally, they're gaining confidence in their reading skills. They wont feel insecure and wont be nervous about what their peers think, which is increasingly important as they get older.
