Devil May Cry 5 prequel novel "Before the Nightmare" was a promotional piece that Capcom put together ahead of the game's release. The novel fills in gaps in the story between Devil May Cry 5 and the game before it in the series. Here's what you need to know about it.
Devil May Cry 5 Prequel Novel
"Devil May Cry 5: Before the Nightmare" was written by Bingo Morihashi, a Japanese novelist who has contributed to several Devil May Cry titles in the past. He is credited with reinventing Dante's character in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, and has also written another Devil May Cry novel called "Devil May Cry 4: Deadly Fortune."
Story beats from "Deadly Fortune" and the latest novel, "Before the Nightmare," are referred to in Devil May Cry 5. Those beats include Dante meeting V, and Kyrie and Nero meeting Nico. Most of the specifics, however, are unnecessary to understand the new game.
"Devil May Cry 5: Before the Nightmare" released March 1 with illustrations by Japanese artist Tsuyomaru. It is currently only available in Japanese.
