Do You Need Xbox Live to Play Apex Legends?
While players do have the option to pay for Apex Legends by purchasing the Founder's Pack for $29.99, the base game itself is completely free to download. Rather than charge for the game, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts are looking to make money through micro transactions in the in-game store.
Unfortunately, free to download doesn't exactly equate to free to play. Because Apex Legends is a multiplayer- and online-only game, Xbox One users will need a subscription to Xbox Live to play. The same is true on PlayStation 4: a subscription to PlayStation Network is required to play the main game.
PC is the only platform on which players can hop into Apex Legends completely for free.
