On Thursday, it’s Festivus for the rest of us at the Festival Flea Market Mall.
Thousands flock to the 400,000-square-foot indoor mall in Pompano Beach, open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The mall has been a popular gathering place for shoppers looking to grab last-minute gifts and for those just wanting to hang out and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
“Festival Flea Market Mall has been open on Christmas Day for the last 23 years,” says Lisa Zhen, the mall’s marketing director.
“This is a South Florida tradition, as popular as Chinese food and a movie with many. This is truly a festive occasion on Christmas Day! Our customers and vendors come from all over the world and enjoy this day as a kickoff to our season each year.”
The mall also is open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The mall has 500 vendors selling bargain-priced watches, jewelry, clothing, handbags, shoes, antiques, electronics, purses, personalized Christmas ornaments and more.
We don’t require that our vendors open on this religious holiday; it is voluntary, but still 95 percent of our vendors are open,” sys Zhen.
There’s a food court, bakery and farmer’s market selling fish, deli meats, prepared foods, fruits and vegetables.
Holiday shopping hours at the mall are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (including Christmas and New Year’s Day), and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Shoppers line up at the information booth to redeem the popular FestiValue Voucher, which offers 20 coupons to save $1 for every $5 spent at the mall. The voucher is available on the mall’s website. Snag other bargains with with “Festival Frenzy” coupons, good for buy-one-get-one free items at various vendors.
