Firefighters rescue teenager who got her head stuck inside Barney The Dinosaur mask

Getting a Barney song stuck in your head is an experience we all can relate to.

Getting Barney stuck on your head, however, is a completely different story.

That’s what happened to 15-year-old Darby Risner on Sunday, when her plan to scare her friends wearing a giant Barney head backfired, ABC News reports.

Darby Risner, from Trussville, Alabama, was rescued by first responders who cut through the fiberglass mask to release her, according to the station. Trussville Fire Department Lt. Vince Bruno told ABC it was a “first” throughout his 33 years at the department.

Risner said she found the Barney head at a friend’s house. After putting it on, she told ABC that it “wobbled and scooched down” her shoulders, trapping her.

“When it started to get hot, I tried to push it off,” she said in an NBC News interview.

Her friends, who were laughing at the prank, tried to help Risner pry the giant head off. When their efforts were unsuccessful, they decided to go down to the local fire station, where the boyfriend of one of Risner’s friends worked. Once there, first responders were able to remove the head.

Although the situation was amusing, Bruno said they had to take it seriously. Firefighters were unsuccessful at pulling the head off at first, but were able to slide it off easily after cutting through the fiberglass.

Risner emerged unscathed – and now, she has quite a story to tell.
