In September 1994, She kicked off her journalism career when she was hired at CBS News as a desk and administrative assistant. Rivera conducted interviews and produced field reports for a year and four months for the station before leaving and joining WNYE and she was hired as a freelance reporter and producer.
In December 1995, she joined the station and served for a year and three months, and later left in February 1997. From March 1997 to April 1999, Frances was in Wichita Falls, where she served at Kfdx as an anchor and reporter. Still, in 1999, Rivera relocated to Oklahoma, from Texa, where she was immediately hired at KWTV as a reporter and substitute anchor.
