The Dania Beach group at the Paul DeMaio Branch serves Danish, doughnuts, coffee and orange juice when they meet on the first Saturday of the month. The Stirling Road Branch in Hollywood offers a bare-bones dialogue from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday as they discuss Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler, a novel about an unlikely union. “The marriage is clumsy because the two people involved are so different in character,” said Reference Librarian Miriam Kallett.
The Galt Ocean Mile Reading Center’s book discussion includes refreshments and meets from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday with the topic Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees.
The West Regional Book Club in Plantation is serving up Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie,10 a.m. to noon Friday.
The book discussion at the African-American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale at 2 p.m. Saturday addresses Diane McKinney-Whetstone’s Tumbling, a portrait of a black community in South Philadelphia in the 1940s and ’50s.
