Lark DiMucci’s father Dion began singing when he was five years old. Uncle Lou would later purchase him a guitar and teach him a few chords a few years later. Paul Whitman, a 1920s bandleader who by the 1950s was most recognized for identifying and developing emerging talent, was introduced to him by his father. At the age of twelve, Dion began appearing with Whitman on East Coast radio and television shows, including Whitman’s own Teen Club.
Lark DiMucci’s father, Dion arranged studio time for four rock and roll songs as Valentine’s Day present for his mother in early 1957. The sample was sent to the creators of the Philadelphia-based Teen Club TV show, where he made his acting debut in 1954.

Dion’s fame grew to the point that Irv Spice, the owner of Mohawk Records, heard about her. Dion recorded “The Chosen Few” and “Out Of Colorado” using unknown studio musicians and a backup vocalist. After a few local sales, Jubilee, a major New York record label, decided to distribute it. It was, however, unable to attract an audience.
