Commissioners took a 10 percent pay cut three years ago with the city in financial crisis. On Tuesday, they voted to put the former salaries back in place.
The commission voted 4-1 for the pay increase and for increasing their discretionary office budgets, which were also reduced in 2011. The vote also increased the mayor’s salary and office budget.
Commissioner Eileen Rathery voted against the increases, which are 11.1 percent above what the mayor and commissioners currently earn. While the city has made progress financially, Rathery said she would like to see more improvements before raising commission salaries.
Mayor Barrington Russell’s annual salary will now be $11,000, an increase of $1,100, and his expense account will increase $1,520 to $15,200.
Each commissioner will receive an annual salary of $9,000, an increase of $900, and an office budget of $14,600, an increase of $1,460.
