The Miami Dolphins made several roster moves Saturday ahead of their Sunday prime-time matchup with the New England Patriots.
The team signed defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand to the active roster, and waived safety Verone McKinley III.
The Dolphins also elevated outside linebacker Cameron Goode and defensive end Chase Winovich from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game.
In addition, cornerback Kelvin Joseph will not travel with the team to Foxborough, Massachusetts for what the team called non-injury related reasons. He has been ruled out for the Patriots game.
The elevation of the veteran Winovich, as an additional edge defender aside from Goode, could be an indication that Jaelan Phillips may be unable to play against the Patriots. Phillips popped up on the Friday injury report with a back injury and is officially listed as questionable.
Also questionable for Sunday are offensive tackle Terron Armstead, defensive back Elijah Campbell and tight end Julian Hill.
Winovich was a third-round pick of the Patriots in 2019. He has played 53 games with 11 starts in his career, spending last season with the Cleveland Browns. He has 105 tackles and 12 sacks in his career, with 11 of them coming in his first two seasons.
Goode was elevated for the opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. He is a core special teamer who played 17 snaps without any action on defense in the 36-34 win in Los Angeles. He is in his second NFL season since being drafted in the seventh round in 2022 out of California and spent his entire rookie campaign on the practice squad without ever getting called up.
Hand, a fourth-round pick of Detroit in 2018, signed with Miami on Aug. 6. He has appeared in 31 career games with 11 starts, also playing with Tennessee from 2021-22. Hand has 54 career tackles (39 solo), three sacks, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
McKinley played in 10 games with two starts as an undrafted rookie for the Dolphins in 2022 that started the season on the practice squad. He has 16 tackles, one interception and one pass defensed.
Joseph was acquired by Miami in the deal that sent cornerback Noah Igbinoghene to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the season. While not playing defensively in the opener, he led the team with 24 special teams snaps last week.
