Miami teacher arrested over alleged relationship with an underage student

A Miami-Dade County public school teacher is facing a charge of sexual battery in connection with a relationship investigators say he had with an underage female student.

Jason Edward Meyers, 41, will also be fired from his position at Miami Palmetto Senior High, school district officials said.

According to the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, allegations about “an inappropriate relationship” determined there was probable cause to arrest Meyers.

Preliminary information from the department did not disclose details about the allegations.

He is charged with sexual battery on a minor and was booked into a Miami-Dade jail shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday and was being held on a preliminary bond of $75,000, records show.

A statement from Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesperson Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said Meyers will be recommended for termination.

“The alleged actions by the teacher are unacceptable and reprehensible,” the statement said.

Authorities say the investigation is active and ongoing and anyone with information that could possibly assist should contact the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department at 305- 995-2677 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
