Poker starts off the year at Seminole Coconut Creek event

The first big poker series of the year in South Florida begins Wednesday. It’s the Coco Poker Showdown, and it’ll be a 12-day run at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek at noon Wednesday in the STAX Poker Lounge.

The main event guarantees $350,000 and runs from Jan. 14-18. The buy-in is $350 buy in and players start with 20,000 chips. For those unfamiliar with poker, that’s enough chips to make a mistake or even two and not get knocked out.

There’s also a $100,000 guaranteed event from Jan. 7-11, with a $125 buy in. Players can enter either at 7 p.m. Wednesday or 11 a.m. or 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday or Saturday (Jan. 10). The tournament then continues Jan 11 and possibly Jan. 12.

Eight other events are also on the schedule with guarantees ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. That includes the monthly Andy Slater “See Ya Later” tournament, hosted by the 940 AM WMEN radio personality. Buy-in is $94, players can re-enter if they are knocked out and the card room guarantees $20,000 in prize money.
