Maxim magazine usually taps its editors to find the best food in the country. This year, they went to celebrities, chefs and readers to find their favorite fare.
Rock N Roll Ribs in Coral Springs made the list of top five dinners. It was nominated by Rich Pierce, a musician and road manager who has toured with everyone from Marilyn Manson to Gregg Allman.
Wrote Pierce: “This place is run by Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain. I originally went because he’s a friend, but I was thinking, What’s a Brit know about barbecue? But dammit, I was impressed! A few friends and I shared the Beast, a $60 tableful of barbecued everything: chicken, ribs, pulled pork, pulled beef, beans, corn, fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and sauces galore. We’re three big guys, and we couldn’t even put a dent in it. The food and the atmosphere are awesome. It’s not a big place, but there’s a little stage outside where Nicko jams with his side band, doing classic covers. It’s great food, great staff, and great music.”
Docs Diner in Key Largo is among the top five breakfast spots included in the August issue. It was nominated Steve Hutchinson of the Minnesota Vikings, who calls Coral Springs his hometown. He’s a fan of something called The Champ.
“The Champ is a ceramic skillet about 12 inches wide with a bed of hash browns. On top of that is sausage gravy. Then that’s covered with corned beef hash, two slices of cheese, and two eggs made to order. I get ’em fried or over easy. It’s your stereotypical greasy-spoon hangover food—for when you’ve had a bunch of piña coladas with Jimmy Buffett the night before. It’s a delicious mess.”
Finally, the Key lime pie at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach made Adam Richman’s list of 10 Road Trips Eat. “While the signature crab claws are amazing, do not overlook their incredible Key lime pie—maybe the best I’ve ever had.”
