My Students

I am the teacher of very energetic and remarkable 5th-grade students in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country. Our district has over 48,000 students, encompasses almost 2,000 square miles, and has more than 130 schools and programs. There are over 100 languages spoken by families in our school district.

Each of my students comes from his or her own unique situation and home life.

Every single one of my students has strengths to share, as well as room to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. My students are very creative and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals. We work hard to build a strong and loving classroom community that works together to ensure learning, growth, opportunities, and successes for each other.

My Project

This project will bring us student materials, teacher resources, and online access to Studies Weekly. Students will receive a weekly newspaper that will supplement our social studies curriculum and is aligned with standards and frameworks. These consumable publications will be used with multiple reading and literacy strategies. Students will also be developing writing skills by answering 'Think and Review' questions, as well as summarizing articles.

I want each of my students to have every opportunity to be engaged and successful with their learning.

Students will have a classroom set of printed consumable learning materials, as well as online access to articles, read-a-loud features for each newspaper article, and numerous activities. Although we are a 5th-grade classroom, I am requesting the 4th-grade edition because it aligns with our curriculum. We will be studying geography and colonization through to the end of the Civil War.

With the help of DonorsChoose and our many generous donors, it will be possible to help each of my students to have learning materials they enjoy and to be as successful as possible.
