Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hola`! Ni-hao! Ciao! I teach ELL (English Language Learner) students from 12 different countries of varying English levels. We believe everyone can achieve the American dream. We want our students to feel confident that they can succeed and fulfill their hopes and dreams no matter where they come from and what kinds of challenges this new way of living is bringing to us.
Our school is a Title I school with many living at the poverty level.
The students love coming to school because it's a safe learning environment with a caring staff and support system. Most of the students in our class are Hispanic newcomers, with a few Asian, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European. With so many different cultures and languages in the classroom, we feel a sense of unity when the students get a chance to engage with technology. Even though there are so many differences going on, students of different cultures find the ability to communicate especially when technology is at the forefront.
We are fortunate enough to have a 6th grade STEM cohort this school year to raise levels of creativity, and scientific and mathematical thinking. These are the job skills that are in high demand.
My Project
This project is to support and encourage my students to play ST MATH, a visual, language-free, instructional program that uses brain's spatial-temporal reasoning to solve math problems. This is a great program that we have used for many years and students love it!
It can be a challenge to get them to work harder so having these rewards and gifts available for them as incentives will do the trick!
The love the penguin character, Jiji, and will love the penguin inspired rewards I have picked out. Students will work more at home so they can achieve the more progress and complete levels. With each level completed they are gaining more practice with the math topics we cover in class.
