The Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded the University of Miami Otto G. Richter Library a $711,597 grant to create a digital database of rare Cuban documents.
The grant will pay for the creation of a Web page linking to the digitized materials. This will allow the public to research the collection and make manuscripts and photographs more accessible.
The University’s Cuban Heritage Collection is one of the largest repositories of materials about Cuba and Cuban-Americans outside the island. It includes more than 250,000 items, including manuscripts, maps, posters and personal papers from the early colonial period to the present.
