Vanessa Richards is a famous American meteorologist who has been working at Spectrum News as a meteorologist since September 2010. Her fascination with tornadoes (and the movie Twister) inspired her commitment to the weather from an early age.
She realized her desire to see a tornado when she spent a few weeks with her SUNY Oswego classmates pursuing twisters in “Tornado Alley.” She also teaches part-time to students there, preparing them for a career in broadcast meteorology.

She realized her desire to see a tornado when she spent a few weeks with her SUNY Oswego classmates pursuing twisters in “Tornado Alley.” She also teaches part-time to students there, preparing them for a career in broadcast meteorology.
During her tenure at Spectrum News 1, she gets up early to present our audience with the detailed forecasts they need as they begin their hectic days. She usually spends her days at the weather station preparing forecasts, but she can be seen out and about in the community reporting storm damage, heavy snowfall, or having fun at local parks or sporting events.
In addition to predicting for Central New York, she hosts the weekly pet program Your New Best Friend, in which area animal shelters bring adoptable pets in the hopes of finding them a permanent home. In her spare time, she enjoys going on hikes, running, and biking. Vanessa’s favorite place to escape is the gorgeous Finger Lakes Wine Trails, which are literally in our backyard.
